Yesterday our little TED talk was about our digestive system 😏. Today we talk family. My middle daughter has a few penpals, family members. One of her aunts lives overseas and she was explaining that it takes longer to get letters because of that. I went on to tell her about how it used to be...back in the day (this is when I start to sound old and wise!) They are soooooo lucky to know their family, talk to them whenever they want and visit them for long periods of time. For me it was different, I didn't get that luxury. But I do see my mom now talk to her sister EVERYDAY thanks to @whatsapp @facebook @instagram ! They chat about recipes, life, everything without counting minutes. Over the years, I have seen some of my cousins here in the states for a quick visit and I see them all on social media, and all their kids regularly. People I've only met a handful of times, but family, my family. There was always a deep love even though I didn't really know them. My dear friend Zahra @zahracomedy talks about this "ghost family" in a segment "100 people who love you, no matter what". It's humbling, it's accurate to what I felt growing up and finally meeting my family...at the age of 10. If you have 15 minutes, check it out. Chevre + persimmon + black sesame — the first bite I served at yesterday’s food photography workshop with @add1tbsp. I love the combination of fresh goat cheese with delicate, slippery persimmon backed by a crisp rice cracker. 🧡 My goal here was also to showcase the beauty of fresh, local goat cheese. I love the chèvre from @lindendalefarm in Lancaster County, PA. It’s made by a single family, the Mellingers, and all five kids are involved with raising animals and cheesemaking. 🧡 Alongside this pairing, we popped a magnum of Prosecco & poured it into glasses over whole hibiscus 🌺 flowers from @wildhibiscusco. It’s beautiful to watch each flower open like a baby octopus reaching for bubbles! 🧡 I’ll be posting more pairings from the workshop this week. It was a pleasure to develop pairings from @riverwardsproduce, a small grocery in my neighborhood where the owner, Vince Finazzo, takes such pride in stocking interesting products & soulful cheeses. New-ish Eatery Alert📍Sylhet Fusion Cuisine • Morog Pulao - Bangladesh Chicken Pulao/Pilaf 🇧🇩 On Friday, I unexpectedly worked remotely and lunched at a soft serve yogurt shop that recently added hamburgers and permutations of fried chicken plus Thai soup plus Nepali dishes plus Indian dishes plus Chinese-Indian classics plus Bangladesh food. My curiosity outpaced my reflexive worries of potential disappointment. I understand that a wide selection is its economic survival strategy in a diverse neighborhood. Learning that the kitchen staff at Sylhet Fusion was from Bangladesh, I zeroed in on several dishes and selected the Morog Pulao listed under the Biryani section, which led to my incorrect expectation of a baked or mixed Chicken Rice dish versus creamy chunks of chicken ladled over rice. Morog translates as an adult male chicken. Sylhet is the north eastern Bangladesh region where the kitchen team is from. The medium spicy, which was my requested piquancy level, came from the peppers in the creamy dairy sauce with the warm flavors better identified for me with Indian food. The chicken was made to order and perfect for the cold weather. The lower volume of business, as compared to Jackson Heights, for this cuisine is reflected in the slightly dried out rice. I can forgive that in this neighborhood. I don’t know Bangladesh cuisine that well to discern it from Indian cuisine. I find the delicious flavor softer than Indian food. Maybe there are no clear lines. I hope that I properly shared what I learned but feel like I am trying to color in a paint by number picture with a paint roller. If anyone has any clarification or amplification, I welcome it in the comment section below. Thanks! More dishes to come. NB: Bangladesh is the noun and adjective. Bangladeshi or Bengali is the noun and adjective pertaining to the nationality.

Sonntag ist mein Organisations- Tag. 🥁Wenn ich eins gelernt habe, seit ich Kinder habe, dann das Organisation wirklich alles ist🗓. Mein innerstes hat sich immer dagegen gewehrt, ich bin nämlich gerne spontan und improvisiere gern… 😬nur leider geht das nicht als Mama… nicht ohne, dass es schlussendlich auf meine ME- TIME 🧘🏼‍♂️geht und im Übrigen aufs Geld Die meist gehasste Frage von uns Müttern ist wohl die «Was-koche-ich-heute» Frage 🤯.Ich finde es versetzt einen regelrecht in Stress. Gesund kochen, abwechslungsreich und schnell vor allem- puh und das zweimal am Tag/ jeden Tag. Wer ist nicht auch verzweifelt im @coop.ch herumgeirrt und hat schlussendlich ein Menü mit, mehr oder weniger, convenience- food zusammengestellt. 🌭Autsch! Erstens «teuer» und zweitens von wegen «Healthy-lifestyle» und so. Ja wir wollen unsere Kids gesund ernähren und auch gerne selbst gesund und fit bleiben. Die Menüplanung für eine ganze Woche hat sich bei mir zu meinem Erstaunen sehr etabliert. Ich nehme mir sonntags kurz Zeit, google nach Rezepten (gerne auf @eatsmarter_de ) die uns allen 4 gut schmecken ☀️und guttun kann, ändere hier und da was ab, schreibe es auf, streiche was weg… werfe einen Blick auf das Menü und checke, ob es abwechslungsreich genug ist. 📑Gleichzeitig mache ich mir eine Einkaufsliste und kaufe, anfangs Woche, nur die Dinge ein, die es tatsächlich für die Gerichte benötigt. Herrlich, ich muss unter der Woche weder täglich zum Supermarkt rennen noch mir die meist gehasste Frage stellen. Gerne zeige ich den Plan meinen Töchtern, die dürfen natürlich auch Wünsche äussern und siehe da- es wird viel weniger gemotzt🥰 Im Übrigen sparen wir echt viel Industriezucker ein … aber zu diesem Thema gibt es bald einen extra Post. . Beignets first graced New Orleans tables a few hundred years ago when they were brought over by French colonists. While the French had popularized them and spread them across modern-day Louisiana, Canada and everything in between, their roots actually go much farther back. The very first beignets, or, at the time, 'scriblita' were actually made in ancient Rome during 5th century BC. These 'scriblita' were a gooey, moist dough dipped into boiling fat and sugared. Yum?? Over time France adopted and adapted the sugary doughnuts into their own pastry, and in the 17th century, the beignets followed them to America. The French took up shop in Acadia in east coast Canada. Little did they know, though, that only a hundred years later the British would take control over the entire region. These Acadians made a home there and brought with them plenty of their own regional and French dishes along with the French language. They were met with the melting pot of Native American, Spanish, Carribean and French culture already present in the city. Today they are called Cajuns and they make New Orleans and the world a better place with globally inspired dishes, traditions and festivals. Anyway, back to the beignets. А подавать я их предлагаю с сыром страчателла и икрой!
