R E A L T A L K
I have been pretty silent on social media for the most part.
That's because I've been dealing with a very new part of life for me. I get the anxiety, I get the depression. I understand it, we're tight, we hang; but this is something still new:
Marriage takes guts. It takes courage. It takes hard work. Marriage has made me identify things in myself that I never knew existed. It makes me rewire parts of myself. And guess what? Most of it doesn't come naturally.
So here's what I'm building up to. You ready?
EVERY MARRIED COUPLE SHOULD GO TO COUNSELING.
Don't wait till there's strife. Don't wait till it's almost over. Don't wait till you resent each other.
Do it because neither one of you are experts.
Do it because it's ok that you're not communicating in a way they understand.
Do it for the tough conversations that are coming that you aren't even thinking about.
Do it because you want to love deeper, understand clearer, and live bigger with each other.
I'm so incredibly grateful for a pillar and partner in my sweet Neal. I'm so thankful for someone that has held my hand tightly and said, "I'm in."
I'm sharing this with you for this simple reason: there is no shame in help.
Not for mental illness, not for marriage, not for sickness, not for pain. No shame. Ever ever ever.
My marriage wasn't broken, or withering, or rocky. But my marriage is in it's infancy. It's still new. There's still a lot to learn. And there is #NOSHAME in looking for guidance.
And I'm so freaking thankful we did. ♥️♥️
